TChallenge
so... i miss the experience of writing in this blog, but i have been somewhat unfriendly toward the everyday blah blog...but i guess sometimes writer inspiration comes through simply writing...simple writing...
i have been working at camp...for the 9th summer... 3 summers after i SWORE IT OFF FOR GOOD...fancy that, eh? what can i say?? im just not a do-er (but thats a personality flaw for another time). anyway. God brings together all things for his purpose. and he teaches me constantly. this year, i got a paycut!!! yeah!!! *cough... yeah. nine FULL all year round seasons of working and THE MAN gets me. and he gets me good, a $2/hour paycut. and of course summer staff got a $45/week raise! they cut my pay so they could pamper their summer staff!!!!
ick, phleh, pthew...get that dirty rant outta hear! i guess working behind the scenes at a christian camp just makes you act so much more un-christ-like... you have to deal with all the dirty details. and that used to be one of the reasons i refused to be summer staff! i dont like the politics, i dont like being so close to home and having to follow the nazi summer staff rules, and i dont (or rather didnt used to) like the pay.
recently i have become more pro-active and have been training with the Timber Challenge staff at camp. they get to lead Group Initiatives (GIs), Team-building, low ropes, high ropes, archery, and tower. and through this experience i have found the blessings of camp once again. though its still too big for my taste, i have gotten to hang out with some of the coolest staff members, saw their passions in action, and saw that this camp is like their mission trip for the summer. this is the one place they come and get to experience God and be Christ to others... ive seen them as some of the most selfless people and they brought me the closest i have ever been to wanting to be summer staff. through my years here, i had become blinded to God's presence and locked on everything that is flawed at this camp.
also, during staff training, us housekeeping staff get to go to chapel in the mornings. this has been another opportunity where i have gotten to see camp as paradise to the summer staff. theyre not worried about the nazi schedule or the staying on grounds policy, the meager pay or any of the politics. they see to the preparation of their hearts and the fervent prayers for the preparation of the hearts of the campers.
its refreshing. its eye opening. its refocusing.
